We all hope our daughters have all the happiness in the world. We want them to grow up to be gracious and thoughtful and honest and caring and thankful and loving. But, how do we teach them how to be all those things without having them experience a few obstacles along the way? So, this Valentine’s Day I’m expressing love to my daughters by sending them this message of hope.
I hope…
I hope you don’t always get the A, win the promotion, or achieve the placement you’ve fought hard for…that’s when you will discover your passion.
I hope you have one “friend” who doesn’t have your back…that’s how you will learn the strength of a true, supportive, unconditional friend.
I hope you are caught in a lie…then will you accept your flaws, admit your mistakes and become a better you.
I hope you have a time when you struggle to pay your rent, car, electricity and phone bills…then you will learn empathy and compassion.
I hope that your heart gets broken (just once)…then you will have had the amazing experience of loving someone else and the blessing of being loved.
I hope you have one sleepless night continuously checking your phone for messages… then you will know what it means to love a child unconditionally.
I hope you have tears running down your face when your grown child ends her visit, then you will learn to cherish and appreciate every family moment.
I hope one day your face is covered with wrinkles and it’s a little harder to get out of bed than it used to be… then you will have had a life that’s been entirely lived and loved.
